Aruba: jawbone not from Natalee Holloway

Published on 23 November 2010 - 9:56pm
More about:

The piece of jawbone which was found on the island of Aruba earlier this month has turned out not to be from missing US teenager Natalee Holloway, the Aruban authorities said on Tuesday.

Research by the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) has ruled out a connection with Ms Holloway who disappeared without trace while on holiday on the Caribbean island in May 2005. The bone was found on a beach near the Dubali Plas, one of the locations Joran van der Sloot mentioned in a confession.

Mr Van der Sloot, a Dutch citizen, was the main suspect in the Natalee Holloway case and was the last person to be seen with her. Citing lack of credible evidence, the Aruban justice authorities did not press charges against him. He is at present being held in Peru on suspicion of murdering Stephany Flores, a 21-year-old student who was found dead in his hotel room in Lima in May.
