Another loss for Ajax, PSV tops league

Published on 5 February 2012 - 4:27pm
More about:

Amsterdam Ajax have lost yet another premier league match. FC Utrecht beat the Amsterdam squad 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at the ArenA stadium.

Edouard Duplan scored both goals for FC Utrecht, ending a long series of no scores. Earlier in the season, Utrecht beat Ajax 6-4.

After losing their first home game this season, Ajax have been pushed further down the league to sixth place. Frank de Boer’s squad now have 34 points after 20 competition games.

PSV Eindhoven top the league
PSV Eindhoven stretched their lead in the Dutch league to three points despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Heracles Almelo on Sunday afternoon.

Jetro Willems set up Zakaria Labyad after 19 minutes to put PSV ahead. Brazilian Everton headed home the equaliser on the goal line 14 minutes before time.

PSV are top with 42 points after 20 matches, three ahead of Twente Enschede and AZ Alkmaar, who have both played 19 as their matches at Graafschap Doetinchem and ADO Den Haag respectively were postponed due to subzero temperatures.

Heerenveen, 4-3 winners against Roda JC Kerkrade on Friday, are fourth with 37 points, ahead of Rotterdam’s Feyenoord, who beat NEC Nijmegen 2-0, on Sunday afternoon on goal difference.

It’s the first time in four years that Feyenoord won in Nijmegen’s De Goffert stadium. Otman Bakkal and Guyon Fernandez secured Feyenoord’s victory over Nijmegen, who won the previous three league games in a row.
