A seedling from the famed Anne Frank tree, recently blown down during a storm in Amsterdam, is likely to be planted in the garden of the White House in Washington DC.
The Support Anne Frank Tree foundation has confirmed its intention of presenting the tiny tree to President Barack Obama in late 2012. Talks with the US authorities are still underway but are expected to be concluded in a few weeks.
The chestnut tree, which Anne Frank could see from her World War II hideout, was diseased, but it had been hoped it could be saved. Strong winds brought an end to these hopes in August 2010.
