Anne Frank as comic book heroine

Published on 5 July 2010 - 3:39pm
More about:

Children who are curious to learn about Anne Frank can now read her life story in comic book form. The director of the Anne Frank Foundation, Hans Westra, has announced that the "graphic biography" of the Jewish girl and her family hiding from the Nazis in Amsterdam will be available in Dutch bookshops from Friday.

The idea for a comic book originated from the fact that children read less than they used to. "We think it's important that children learn the story of Anne Frank and we were looking for a more modern form" says Hans Westra.

The book is written by Sid Jacobson and illustrated by Ernest Colón, who are best known for their comic strip about the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington: The 9/11 Report. The comic book is being published around the world to mark the 50th anniversary of the Anne Frank House.
