Amsterdam Schiphol airport made nett profits of 97.3 million euros in the first half of 2011, an increase of 40.5 percent on the same period in 2010.

Schiphol says the profit hike is thanks to the growth in passenger numbers, port duties payable by airlines and an increase in shop and restaurant takings.

Total airport turnover grew 10.8 percent to 604.1 million euros in the first six months of 2011. Schiphol expects the trend to continue for the rest of the year.
