Amsterdam to help towns bar Hells Angels

Published on 28 January 2012 - 5:18pm
More about:

Amsterdam is willing to help nearby municipalities bar the Hells Angels following their expulsion from the capital, Mayor Eberhard van der Laan has announced.

The Hells Angels have been ordered to abandon their club house in Amsterdam East by Monday. It is not yet known if and where they will open a new one. Many municipalities near the capital are concerned the Hells Angels may move into their area. The Hells Angels are suspected of organised crime including drugs trafficking and blackmailing restaurants and cafés.

Mayor Van der Laan has told Security and Justice Minister Ivo Opstelten he is prepared to offer advice to any concerned municipality. “Amsterdam has built up considerable expertise in tackling violence and organised crime and can help others investigate the connections between the criminal underworld and apparently legal companies,” a spokesperson for the mayor explained.
