Amsterdam call for legal hard drug use

Published on 6 September 2011 - 8:53pm
More about:

The Amsterdam branch of the opposition Green Left party is calling for the use of hard drugs like Ecstasy, LSD and cocaine to be legalised.

Green Left members of the Amsterdam city council say they want an end to the criminalisation of users.
They want the ban on hard drugs removed from the municipal legislation.

At the national level, the Dutch Opium Act outlaws the production, possession and sale of hard drugs but does not prohibit their use. Amsterdam did that itself by explicitly including use in the local by-laws.
