Amsterdam and Paris to join forces

Published on 4 October 2011 - 12:26pm
More about:

The French and Dutch capitals are to sign a friendship treaty and intensify their collaboration. One of their objectives is to persuade companies to come to Europe.

Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan, who is on a two-day visit to Paris, announced the news on Monday evening. He is being accompanied by a delegation of more than 40 Amsterdam council officials and entrepreneurs.

“We have got Air France and KLM as a combo, we have got Charles de Gaulle and Schiphol which are already working together, so it is only logical that our two cities should join forces too,” Mayor Van der Laan said.

Subjects of interest to both cities include slum districts and sewage treatment. Mr Van der Laan said the two cities could also learn from each other in the fields of congestion management and the role that bicycles and electric cars can play therein.
