Amsterdam air traffic disrupted by rubber fire

Published on 22 February 2011 - 10:09pm
More about:

Smoke billowing up from a huge fire in the port of Amsterdam is causing disruptions to air traffic at Schiphol Airport. Fire fighters say the blaze in a rubber and latex warehouse is under control.

The burning rubber created a deep black mushroom cloud, clearly visible in a wide area against the clear blue winter sky. Air samples taken by regional health services have not revealed any danger to public health.

Nobody was injured in the fire. The cause has not been established, but roof repairs may have played a part.
