Ai Weiwei art comes to the Netherlands

Published on 16 June 2011 - 11:25pm
More about:

The Netherlands Architecture Institute will bring a work of art by Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei to the Netherlands.

The work will form part of the exhibition Dwarsdesign - Chinese en Nederlandse ontwerpers met lef (Contrary design – Chinese and Dutch designers with guts) which is scheduled to open in Rotterdam on 1 July.

Ai Weiwei won world fame for his participation in the design of the Beijing Olympic stadium, the Bird’s Nest. He subsequently incurred the wrath of the Chinese authorities when he spoke out in favour of internet freedom.

The work of art is currently on a ship crossing the Atlantic to Rotterdam, where it is expected to arrive on Tuesday. It will be unveiled by the NAI on the same day.
