Police in the town of Nieuw-Vennep, near Amsterdam, have confiscated 7,000 kilograms of marijuana and hashish in a shed, with an estimated street value of 40 million euros. Two men and a woman in their thirties were arrested.
A tip-off had led police to the main suspect, a 31-year-old Amsterdam man, in whose home ecstasy tablets, fake firearms and munitions were found. The trace next led to the shed in Nieuw-Vennep, whose tenant is one of the men arrested. Both are still in detention; the woman has been released.
The stockpiling of softdrugs is illegal in the Netherlands, although small-scale distribution and personal use are generally tolerated.
