“Slavery” in Hague ambassadors’ homes

Published on 26 March 2011 - 8:00am
More about:

Ambassadors and senior diplomats in The Hague are guilty of exploiting and imprisoning their domestic staff. Embassy servants have told Radio Netherlands Worldwide and Dutch daily Trouw their stories of abuse.

An Indonesian domestic servant working for a South American diplomat had to hand in her passport and employment contract, was forbidden to leave the house and had to work seven days a week for a low wage. A Philippine servant of a former Saudi ambassador also had her passport confiscated and was confined to the house for five years, until she finally escaped with her children. The cases are nothing short of “modern slavery”, says lawyer Antoinette Vlieger.

Radio Netherlands Worldwide and Trouw are now aware of a number of cases of confinement, exploitation and psychological abuse of domestic staff in The Hague, the Dutch city in which nearly all foreign embassies are located. The diplomats involved are from the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Latin America. They often make use of cheap labour from the Philippines or Indonesia.

Diplomatic Immunity is an antiquated law, and due to its vast abuses by degenerate diplomats, it needs to be repealed. I see no reason at all why diplomats need immunity. Well behaved, decent, respectable, honorable people hold themselves to a higher standard than any law of the land anyway, so immunity from the law is only demanded by those who know they will be acting beneath it. These degenerate, dishonorable, bottom feeders of society need to be held accountable for their actions. It's time for the governments of higher educated, civilized societies to put a stop to diplomatic immunity and let the chips fall where they may. What do the Dutch need from the Saudis anyway? You have marvelous landscapes, waterways, and people ride bikes. Tell the Saudis to get out and take their moral degenerate ambassador filth with them.

Why did you put "slavery" in quotation marks? That was quite literally slavery!
