The new 130 km/h speed limited can be introduced for dozens of sections of the country’s motorways, and there are also sections where the current speed limit of 100 km/h can be raised to 120. These are the conclusions of an inventory drawn up by Infrastructure Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen published by populist newspaper De Telegraaf on Saturday.
The plan to raise the speed limit from 120 km/h to 130 is part of the cabinet's coalition agreement. Various media recently reported that the higher speed limit would only be introduced on four motorway sections, but the minister says she has found eight sections where motorists will soon be able to drive faster as part of a pilot. When the pilot is successful, the higher speed limit will be introduced for dozens of motorway sections this summer.
The minister said “I want to ensure that during this cabinet’s term the 130km/h speed limit is introduced for at least a third of all motorways.”
