Yodhoyono to target economy and poverty

Published on 9 July 2009 - 2:00pm
More about:

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono says he plans to make the economy his priority and that he will also work hard to fight poverty.

He was speaking after the first cabinet session of his new term of office, a day after his re-election. The former general won enough votes in the first round of Indonesia's presidential election to win outright.

One of the other presidential candidates, Jusuf Kalla, has given the president his congratulations. However, another contender in the race, former president Megawati Sukarnoputri, has not conceded defeat, citing electoral fraud. It will be days before all the votes have been counted.
