Yemen has vowed it will oust all al-Qaeda insurgents from its territory.
On its website, the Yemeni defence ministry writes that 'intensive operations' against Osama bin Laden's terror network will continue. Yemen has also called on its citizens not to cooperate with al-Qaeda. On Wednesday Yemen reported it had killed an al-Qaeda leader in a firefight in the southern province of Shabwa.
Yemen is under international pressure to crack down on militant Muslims. The pressure further increased after a failed attack on Boxing Day, when a Nigerian tried to blow up a jetliner over the US city of Detroit. The would-be bomber reportedly received training in Yemen.
