World's cartoonists thrash Dutch anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders

Published on : 3 December 2010 - 1:36pm | By RNW News Desk (Cartoon: Talal Nayer)
More about:

A furore over Danish cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad in 2005 sparked the idea of a counter-offensive by cartoonists around the world.

The international video journalist and cartoonists platform, VJ Movement, asked cartoonists in Islamic and other countries how they saw the increasing criticism of Islam in Europe.

The call produced 30 satirical drawings, most of them featuring Dutch rightwing anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders. Six are shown in the slideshow below.

According to spokesman Tjeerd Rooyaards of The Hague-based VJ Movement, "Mr Wilders' face is well-suited to being caricatured". Next month, VJ movement will launch a separate platform, Cartoon Movement.

Move forward Geert as islam will always move backwards with there fascist religion.

Does any more proof needed to compare Mad Islam to tolerant Geert Wilders? Has any one heard any threats from him or his followers over these tasteless cartoons? How many people were killed by Muslims, when they have encounters -according to their tastes"-tasteless cartoons?
About Islamic racist cartoons- has anyone seen the mirror image of Nazi racist anti Jewish propaganda in the description of Jews in Islamic Cartoons, or it's only in my imagination?

Geert Wilders 7 December 2010 - 2:50pm / Netherlands

Yeah, right... this is funny though.

White westerners are full of it. Look at what they are doing to Wikileaks...that's their definition of "freedom of speech." As long as you agree with them, their retarded and degenerate culture, politics, racism etc you're ok. Westerners have committing violence for centuries so it's high time their feet be held to the fire.
Wilders is simply doing what white westerners have done for centuries : spread hatred, racism and violence.

Anonymous 7 December 2010 - 5:08am

"White westerners, white westerners, white westerners....blah, blah blah." Such inane chatter IS racism. Get the chip off your shoulder, knucklehead. You're an embarrassment to your compatriots.

Does anyone really care what Muslims think? I don't. irancartoon.com has hundreds of cartoons protesting Islamaphobia and ironically enough most of them are as hateful as any Nazi propoganda that ever existed. Typical Islam- they respond to criticizism by acting like Nazis. If Muslims ever got out and protested homophobia, anti-atheist, anti-christian, and anti-jewish hate speech by THEIR media I could take them seriously. But they never do.

Pretty feeble attempts at 'thrashing' Geert. The phrase 'water off a ducks back' comes to mind. Waiting for rioting by Dutch people showing their outrage. I think I'll be in for a long wait. Nobody does outrage as well as sleighted Islamists. Watching them foaming at the mouth like rabid dogs, now that is funny.

Geert Wilders cartoons are not news. He's a politician. There have been plenty better than these, both pro and con, as a simple google image search (geert wilders cartoon) shows:
http://www.google.ca/images?hl=en&biw=986&bih=891&gbv=2&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=...
Any of these cartoonists taking a potshot at Islam, now THAT would be news.

Prophet Muhammad and Ali are not very happy about comics. But we doing the same to all of you, we even, don't be mad. 1180 Holy R O M A N E M P I R E under Frederick I Barbarossa vs Saladin. Who yu got now? our Saladin is Hugo Chavez under B O L I V I A N E M P I R E . Reday to fly, ready to stright. ... Make your move ... Just waiting on you ...

Anonymous 2 January 2012 - 3:25pm

"But we doing the same to all of you, we even, don't be mad." What you wrote makes no sense.

Susan 4 December 2010 - 8:15am

Who we got now? Captain A-Bomb for starters, that's who.

Anonymous 3 December 2010 - 6:54pm

Mr Wilders isn't going to go murder anyone because of these cartoons, because he has thicker skin than that. He can take the criticism. The same cannot be said about many in the Islamic community. The cartoons controversy showed us that pretty vividly. So I'm not actually sure what point the cartoonists here are trying to make, except perhaps that they are happy to give but can't take?

Susan 4 December 2010 - 12:21am

He'll probably laugh his butt off. I would if I were in his shoes.

David Berridge 3 December 2010 - 6:16pm / Canada

A saying goes that any free publicity is good. This applies to Geert as well, as these cartoons do more than well to deflect the controversies surrounding certain of his elected supporters over the last two weeks. Now there is at least a new humerous perspective to interpret Geert in the public sphere. The globalization of Geert through these cartoons gives him what he aspires to in terms of his being the world's leading figure vis-a-vis Islam. There will be of course, a great deal of response to these cartoons, both pro and con. along a range of extremely serious to satirical. But nonetheless it must be well remembered who Geert is and what he is attempting within the Netherlands and internationally.

Anonymous 3 December 2010 - 5:36pm / United States

Susan, it seems that Westerners only accept freedom of speech if it's theirs. As soon as an idea which conflicts with theirs comes up it becomes evil and shouldn't be allowed. This is a legitimate way to show a groups sentiments on what they believe is unfair prejudice.

Dan 4 December 2010 - 12:45am

Yes, westerners only permit free speech if it's their free speech. That's why Muslims can preach murder on our streets and Geert Wilders is on trial for speaking out against Islam.

Dan 4 December 2010 - 12:42am

Yes, we only allow free speech when it's our free speech. That's why Mulsims are permited to preach murder in our streets and Geert Wilders is on trial for speaking out against Islam.

Susan 3 December 2010 - 6:14pm

Back that up. You give no evidence to support that. Contrary to your opinion, Westerners are tolerant to a fault and will almost never stand up to "evil" until it hits them in the face.

Susan 3 December 2010 - 4:22pm

This movement clearly shows that Muslims don't understand free speech. Westerners accept parody and mockery as a part of free speech and, as such, there won't be any murders or vandalism because someone gets offended. In essence, we can take a joke and they can't. The result of this movement will be that they will prove the West's tolerance and sophisticated concept of freedom vis-a-vis their intolerance and barbarity. In that sense, they are helping Wilders, not hurting him.

Hiram2 3 December 2010 - 4:12pm

JW, one definition of parody of is: "A feeble or ridiculous imitation". Are you using yourself as an example of a normal, human being?

JW 3 December 2010 - 3:12pm / NL

Wilders is himself a parody of a normal human being. No artistic embellishment required.
