Over the summer holidays, Radio Netherlands Worldwide asked you to send us snapshots of your vacation friends. From all corners of the globe you dispatched your cheerful, tranquil or amorous memories.
The RNW jury picked three winners, who told us the story behind their pictures, which are shown below. The three winners will each receive an iPad.
Photos from the English department runners-up are below.

Photo 1: Jump & Wave, by Marlies Pilon
My name is Marlies Pilon, I work as a freelance journalist in Uganda. On our last holiday in Mombasa, we met these two crazy nice muzungus and were flying high all week, as you can see in the picture! We had such a good time that they decided to come and visit us @Uganda in September. I am proud to call them my friends!

In the photo, my friends Jessica, Matt, Amy and Andi.
Photo 3: Best friends, by Jack Herman
I took this picture: while visiting India alone in March of 2011. These were my three new best friends while I was hiking outside of Shimla in the foothills of the Himalayas. They had great smiles!

Photo 4: Wet seats, by Stewart D Wilson
This picture was taken August 2010 at the biggest man-made lake in Malaysia, Tasik Kenyir. We had to sit in an iffy boat and no, we did not pee in our pants, the cushions on the wooden seats had been left overnight in the pouring rain!
