Demonstrations against the Russian government and its economic policies have been held in dozens of towns and cities throughout Russia.
A coalition of opposition groups had declared Saturday the “Day of Anger” in protest at high prices, low wages and high unemployment in Russia. Most of the protesters were calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Dozens of protesters were arrested In Moscow and several other cities.
Local elections last weekend showed that support for Mr Putin's United Russia party is decreasing.
