Jacob van Blom, a born and bred Rotterdamer, has bright blue eyes and a full red beard. He is a Feyenoord supporter and runs his own business. Eleven years ago, he converted to Islam.
He says people falsely view Islam as a "foreign culture" that has nothing to do with the Netherlands, but "if you separate the core belief from the cultural aspects, you're left with a beautiful belief that is true for everyone".
Why do Dutch people convert to Islam? And why do others view them with hatred and suspicion?
"There is no God but Allah and Mohammed is his prophet," as Jacob recites the Muslim profession of faith, his eyes shine with love. "I was raised as a Christian, but I always had my own ideas. In Islam, I discovered a theory for what I had always believed. It fitted perfectly with what I thought about God".

Jacobs’s wife Stefanie Danopoulos also grew up in Rotterdam. Her Dutch mother and Greek father raised her in the Greek Orthodox Church. Initially, she wasn't at all happy that her husband had converted to Islam, but eventually she converted as well.

Stefanie: "When my husband announced that he was converting, I thought that he'd gone mad. You only hear bad things about Islam from the media, so that's how I thought as well. But then I started learning more about Islam and that changed how I feel".
Stefanie’s family is gradually coming to terms with her, "They were extremely negative at first, but after a few years they realised that I hadn't changed that much. I'm just a bit calmer now than I was before. Greek Orthodox people are extremely religious and some of them are just happy because I do at least believe in God".

Jacob says he knows that conversion to Islam makes some people frightened or anxious. "Dutch people have been living on this bit of the planet for centuries and have developed a rich society and culture. I can imagine that people aren't too happy if a dominant culture suddenly takes root in the middle of all that".

Two committed believers trying to prove which of their religions is more scientifically sound is completely ridiculous. Rigid religious doctrine is a security blanket for those who need to believe with certainty that we humans have found all the answers to our existence. The more “certain” the believer, the less scientific and more intolerant of other beliefs he is.
The “esteemed” Zakir Naik is a good example of this. He is a fundamentalist Islamist Wahhabi, a supporter of Osama bin Laden and violent jihad.

Wrong. I do not believe that either Jesus or Muhammad had the "final word" or were miraculously born as indicated in your link. Jesus never claimed to be, so naturally none of what you have presented is sensible to me.

In the Hebrew language im is added for respect. Similarely im is added after the name of Prophet Muhammad
(pbuh) to make it Muhammadim. In English translation they have even translated the name of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as "altogether lovely", but in the Old Testament in Hebrew, the name of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is yet present.

re jahanam - Islam is the only religion that tells other religions to go to hell and exactly how it is to be done. It is interesting to note that the closest cousins of Islam, “people of the book”, Christians, Jews, are going to deeper levels of hell than idol worshipers, fire worshipers and those who didn’t believe in Allah.
Here are seven levels of Hellfire according to Islam:
1. Jaheem - the shallowest level of Hell. It is reserved for those who believed in Allah and His Messenger, but who ignored His commands.
2. Jahanam - a deeper level where the idol-worshippers are to be sent on the Day of Judgement.
3. Sa'ir - is reserved for the worshippers of fire.

Islam haters believe that more intellectual Muslims are giving up Islam( perhaps they have in mind Salman Rushdie, that is an extra-ordinary exception of treason) but it is a well documented fact that Islam is the only religion that has the least percentage of its adherents leaving the faith.
What is more true is that Islam is the only religion that has been attracting more and more well educated intellectuals, social scientists, scholars of other faiths as you can find it yourself from below.

This has been the biggest achievement of Islam in India. Brother Abdullah’s progeny will be witness to this phenomena over the next few generations.
That is: Islam had effectively destroyed castes in Tamil Nadu. Anyone looking at the skin colour and physical features of Tamil Muslims know that over a period of centuries, tremendous inter-caste marriages among the converts have made total assimilation possible and desirable. But the Hindu converts to Christianity still proudly (but against the real Christian values) maintains their castes and add their caste names after their names. We have names like Margaret Mudaliar, Jacob Damodaran, Xavier Jaganath and so on.
In many village Churches, even today, Dalit Christians are segregated. They occupy a separate bench. Anyone who does sincere research on the teachings of Periyar and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar knew that for the simple reason that only real Islam is capable of rooting out caste differences, they advised particularly Adidravidars and Shudras to get converted to Islam in order to raise their social status. Thank God Periyar Dasan is courageously showing the way.
Some Hindu critics argue that the Indian ( Tamil) converts to Islam were all once Harijans ( Dalits and untouchables). Even accepting that assumption, for the sake of argument, it makes little sense. Because look at the social status, the economic progress and recognised respect that the Tamil Muslims get in the society compared to their Dalit ( Harijan ) brothers who have been living as namesake Hindus.
Brother Tirumavalavan( a great politician belonging to a lower caste) should be able to comment on this more persuasively.
But does the origin of a convert have any weight in the sight of Allah swt? Does not the (once) slave Bilal have an extraordinary status in Islam? Which religion allowed the slaves to have a dynasty of their own ( Read Indian history please). After all Islam’s holy scripture is the only Book that emphatically state as follows;
Quote: “We have created you into nations, clans and tribes so that you recognise each other. In the sight of God, the one closest to God are the ones who are righteous.”
How amazingly beautiful the words are from the Quran.

The real question here is, “Why do a very few Greek Orthodox people convert to Islam?
First, there was Cat Stevens, and now Mrs. van Blom who ought to have listened to her first instict, that Mr. van Blom had gone mad. If they were feeling lonely and in need of a community, they could have become Jehovah’s Witnesses. No suicide bombers there. If you later decide to change your mind they will only stop speaking to you instead of killing you.
I do wonder why Mr. van Blom wasn’t questioned further about his offhand statement about Bouyeri just being a common hooligan. I guess that this reporter didn’t want to disturb this man’s whitewashed fantasy about his new chosen religion.
I don’t know of any football hooligans who take so much time planning the assassination of a public figure, ritually stabbing him, then pinning a long threatening note to his body. There isn’t a hooligans club like the Hofstad group and radical Islam. This is very crappy reporting.

Well, first of all if you believe in god, you are already following a religion that is the religion of God, whether that is Christianity, Islam, or Judaism. Next, there are certain incorrect statements you said about the principles of Islam. But that is not your fault. It’s ours. It’s the fault of all Muslims. The reason is simple. When Islam came to this world 1400 years ago, God told the Muslims that the job was done by him...He had fulfilled his end of the bargain...he had brought Islam into his world.....now it was our turn the Muslims.....to fulfill our end..That is spread Islam...the true Islam....but we failed...and horribly. Not only did we not spread the word of Islam, but we tarnished the true aspects of it.....You spoke of your grandfather. According to my knowledge of Islam.....if he died without ever hearing the word of Islam...then his case is with God and God alone....but at the same time...the entire Muslim race is responsible for this...and we may all be punished for this, as it was our responsibility to spread the word....So in this respect .....I will say that I personally don’t blame a person for not converting to Islam...if he believes in One God....because whether you are a Christian, a Muslim or a Jew, all of our gods are the same one god.....
Now as far as the verse concerning the cutting of the hand of the thief is concerned...it is true. But, I think that the main purpose of the verse was that through it fear of committing thievery would have spread and the sin itself would have stopped. And I don't think any religion would support thievery.
I don't think that the actual implementation of the punishment was the prime concern.
Now what you said about Muhammad (pbuh).....well, all three of the accusations are wrong.
But that is not your fault, again the fault of us Muslims. The media and especially western media have always stained the great things and people of history. For example, during the revolution of Martin Luther king, the American media at the time would say pathetic things about him, most of which were lies...but what happened in the end....? HE is considered one of the greatest men in history. I consider him such myself.
Now, you said rape, was supported by him...well for one thing, Muhammad (pbuh) had 13 wives, and only 6 children out of them. Just to tell, there wee no contraceptive means at that time of history. Yet you say that he supported rape? Just something I think you would like to know is that, before Islam, he married a widow named Khadija. Who happened to be 15 to 16 years older then him? Who would do that that now a days? And another misconception that the world has about Him is that he married an 8 year old girl. It’s true. But they always forget to mention one thing. He didn't have any sexual relations with her until she was sixteen....which I think is an age that can be considered legal 1400 years ago....so how is that wrong? You said that keeping slaves is allowed in Islam, that is wrong...and for your information...Martin Luther King stated himself that the first religion that banned Slaevry was Islam...But I will also say here that the modern muslims dont follow this...they keep slaves and yes...they even use them for wrong purposes....so your mis conceptions are justified.

When Muhammad (pbuh) was in makkah, he was tortured by a number of tribe leaders, sometimes to such an extent that he would return to his home with his hoes full of blood. But when Makkah was won by the Muslims and these tribe leaders were brought before him, and now that he had the power to punish them, he forgave them and let them go. This is on record. Yet you say killing is allowed?
And finally, the internet, I don’t think that the internet is a foul proof source for info. If you want to learn about anything, or any religion, learn about its founder, and hear all sides, the pros and cons.....
Then decide whether it’s only talk or truth...........

One can believe in Islam without thinking much . Think of two things [1] The finger print . There is no book in the world specified the matter except Qraan.[2] Think of the mammy of Pharova which is kept in Cairo museum. The mammy is true in nature and not stuffed as in the case of Karal marx etc. Quraan categorically declare that the Pharova mammy will be kept without being ruined till the last date of the World [ Read what Dr. Morris Bukai wrote about this mammy after a series of study] There are many more scientific examples in the Holly book like skins etc.
Mr. Matroosje, i am very delighted tat u hav put a correct insert of islam , tat islam prohibits creating ur own beliefs, as ISLAM is foolproof and doesn't need human fallacy to creep in, because it has been sent down by the CREATOR himself. and ya about JESUS CHRIST P.B.U.H (peace be upon him) . we believe that JESUS p.b.u.h is a prophet of GOD but not GOD himself. this statement i can prove from the bible itself. if u can give me one UNEQUIVOCAL AND ONE UNAMBIGUOUS STATEMENT from the BIBLE where JESUS CHRIST p.b.u.h(may GOD'S blessings be on him) himself says that "I AM GOD AND WORSHIP ME" i am ready to become a christian at this instant MR.Matroosje. u won't find such a statement at all in the whole of the GOSPEL . but u wil find in the GOSPEL tat " MY FATHER IS GREATER THAN I " in several places in the BIBLE. this proves tat JESUS was not GOD THROUGH THE GOSPEL ITSELF.FOR MORE DETAILS MR. Islam is great ,but negative media make it ugly ,i advice to read about this great from the source 'the good books' what the msuslims writers write about their religion.

Matroosje in islam we have been taught that the biggest gift of all that god gave to humankind is the ability to have a freedom of choice. So you cannot deny that Allah is not as loving as the god in christianity?
The Angels race are only allowed to follow orders but we as humans have a choice between many religions. The god is the same but the act of worship is different so you cannot say that the god in christianity is more loving than the one in islam.
There is a lot of discipline within the quran as Allah has promised that he will protect his book from any alterations as other books have had in the past. The quran has been memorised by people from many different backgrounds and ages and not a single word has been missed out. The promises that god makes in the quran can be checked out and you will see its book is divine. Being firm doesn't make you less loving but fair!
It had been a very painful duty upon the muslims to take the right messge of islam to the people around, especially in a situation where there is huge misunderstanding about it among the masses and deliberate efforts by some to malign it. It had been a great challenge to convince people about its truth and the ability of islam to make one understand the answers to questions ever asked by humanity like who he is?why is he here?who created him?who sustains him and why? and how can we thank him among many other vital questions about his life,nature and god.It answers these queries in a scientific manner acceptable to a man who seriously thinks about what he believs in,in the name of religion rather than blindly following it.Islam can make europe a better europe, if people approach it with open mind. Brothers like Jacob and sisters like danopoulos can bring a better tomorrow to their community. I pray for the whole europe and rest of the world that they find a happier a more prosperous future,a future blessed with the true message of Islam.
