More about:

Feedback 22 July 2009 - This week Feedback shares the answers to some of your recent questions, including where things can be found on the new website, and further information from our programmes.

First up, Mark Jaworski sent in the following question:

“You advertise on your web site analysis in 10 languages. What are they? How can I see or listen to them?”

Indeed Mark, there are 10 different language departments working here at Radio Netherlands Worldwide. If you look on our front page, at the top just under the RNW logo banner, there is a thin line that lists the other languages (including: Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, etc), click on any of these and you will get the relevant website in that language.

Mark was by no means the only listener/reader who not been able to find his way. One of our intrepid web editors, Tim Fisher, has been helping many find their back to some old favourites, like Mr Olthuis, who wrote:

“Where is "Hollandse Ochtend"? Cannot find it anywhere anymore. Why all these changes? If it isn't broke, don't fix it!”

Tim Fisher replied:

“I am pleased to inform you that Hollandse Ochtend continues on our Dutch-language website, under this address: http://www.rnw.nl/nl/nederlands/article/hollandse-ochtend

I trust this will help you to start enjoying these photos once again.”

Another one of our listeners/readers, Mr May, has had problems finding the link for our daily Dutch Press Review and finds the new website more difficult to navigate:

“I have been visiting your site for several years, but the new design makes it much more difficult to find things, and it seems to load a lot slower on computers with a slow internet connection. Hope the next re-design works better.”

Mr Fisher responds:

“We are sorry that our new website does not meet with your approval or, indeed, lend itself to easy use for you.

More specifically, I am afraid our Press Review no longer has a fixed 'Index Page', but we do feature it everyday on our Home Page, in the block of four items listed under Recommended (the first block down from our main story with the large photo or graphic). You might also try using the search function, by typing in the phrase Dutch Press Review.

I am sorry that you have experienced problems with our new website, and hope that it may become more familiar and easier to use over time. The slow loading times have been a problem, indeed, but we hope this will be resolved soon.”

Other readers/listeners have had problems searching for related programme information that is slowly being transferred from our archives to our new website, such as Sally Schofield, who wrote:

“This piece about Forgiveness was aired by WAMU in Washington, DC (I think) on The State We're In on April 5 in the afternoon. We have a Visiting Researcher from Rwanda here with us at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University & I would like to send him a link to this piece, if possible.”

Once again, Tim Fisher had the answer:

“Regarding your request, herewith a link to the relevant item - now on our web archive, as we have moved to a new website.

We are, of course, still working on all the bugs, the slowness, and the migration as quickly as possible. If you are having problems finding things, and have tried our search engine with no luck, please drop us a line through

Sometimes, the questions are not part of our website, but are about further information raised by an article or programme, such as the following query sent by Sertac, who wrote:

“Regarding your article titled "The Netherlands wants more well educated foreigners" Could you please tell me where I can get more information about the fund? In addition, is there an official web site where I can see the rule changes.”

RNW journalist Martijn van Tol, responds: “Here is the information you are looking for (in Dutch only):

http://www.senternovem.nl/kenniswerkers/

also there is a regional initiative: http://www.brabant.nl/Besturen/Geld/Kredietcrisis/Spin%20off%20fonds.aspx

And finally, sometimes the questions are not even for RNW, but much further afield, such as regular listener and reader Jasmin Nanda who sent in a question for Prime Minister Balkenende. Sadly, the question for the PM got to our correspondent Vanessa Mock too late to be used in the last round, but Vanessa has informed Feedback that another round of hard hitting questions will be asked in September, and there are hopes this will become a regular feature.
