The World Food Programme, WFP, reports that 37 percent of North Korean children under five are malnourished and that one third of women are malnourished and anaemic. Malnourished women often give birth to undernourished babies and cannot breast feed their children.
Hundreds of thousands of people have died from famine since the 1990s. Foreign food donations have been cut back drastically since July as a result of the North Korean nuclear programme. North Korea was promised more than six million food packages but has so far received only 1.3 million.
