'We are the World' remake for Haiti

Published on 2 February 2010 - 11:34am
More about:

Over 80 pop and showbusiness stars gathered in Hollywood yesterday evening to record a new version of the song We are the World, the proceeds of which will go to the earthquake victims in Haiti.

The assembled entertainers included Pink, Celine Dion, Kanye West, Barbra Streisand and Haitian-born Wyclef Jean. The original producer Quincy Jones returned to produce this version of the song, which was co-written by Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson.

Released 25 years ago, the original We are the World raised 30 million dollars to fight famine in Africa. Alongside Jackson and Richie, it featured singers such as Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner and Bruce Springsteen.

The new version will be premiered in 3D video on 12 February.
