Two sisters from the town of Borne in Twente are suspected of an attempted killing during a water polo match, last October, NOS reports. The women, aged 22 and 16, kept a player from the opposing team under water after she had scored a goal. The woman was kept submerged for so long that her fellow players had to intervene and rescue her.
The victim has suffered post-traumatic stress syndrome, temporarily disqualifying her from work; she is still afraid to take part in water polo matches.
The two sisters were expelled from their club immediately after the incident. A court case against them was supposed to open on Thursday, but it was postponed owing to illness of the women's lawyer.
