The conservative opposition party VVD objects to the regulation which stops a family's child allowance if a teenager earns too much money in holiday work.
Children of 16 and 17 who live at home are only permitted to earn 2440 euros per quarter. If they earn more, their parents no longer receive the family allowance of just under 300 euros.
VVD member of parliament Stef Blok says cutting child allowance discourages children from low-income families from helping out by getting a job. The party is demanding the cabinet put an end to this practice.
During the summer months, three-quarters of young Dutch people have holiday jobs.
