The Netherlands Coast Guard rescue brigade is warning people on beaches to seek shelter during the sudden change of weather which has been predicted for Thursday afternoon. The danger is greatest for people who are swimming in the sea, surfing or out on sailing vessels.
Earlier on Thursday, the Dutch KNMI weather centre issued a weather alarm for extremely heavy gusts of wind, reaching speeds up to 110 kph, 11 Beaufort. The heaviest winds are expected inland. Road conditions may be dangerous at times.
Heavy local showers are expected, many with hail. The first showers will reach the southwest of the country in the course of the afternoon, moving eastwards over the following hours.
Temperatures in the east of the country are reaching 35 degrees Celsius. As the zone of showers and winds passes, temperatures will drop to 19 degrees.
