The Pakistani government says villagers in the north-west of the country attacked Taliban militants and killed seven of them after the Taliban bombed a mosque and killed 40 local people on Friday.
According to a senior government official in the Swat Valley, around 500 villagers formed a militia and attacked the Taliban in the wake of the suicide attack. Most of the Taliban fighters have now been driven out of the village. According to one tribal elder, the villagers will not allow the Islamist militants to return.
