Vietnam has released a dissident Roman Catholic priest from jail on compassionate grounds.
Nguyen Van Ly (62) is seriously ill with a brain tumor. He was given an eight-year jail-term in 2007 for distributing anti-communist propaganda. The sentence was sharply condemned by human rights organisations. The United States and European Union also criticised Vietnam for prosecuting the priest.
