The Italian city of Venice has once again been hit by major flooding. The water in the lagoon which surrounds the city is almost 1.5 metres higher than normal due to a combination of high tide and heavy rain. The city's famous St Mark's Square is completely under water.
Venice, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list, has been hit by flooding over 50 times in the last 15 years. UNESCO issued a warning in 2007 that the city could end up under water for good unless measures are taken to deal with the rising water.
