Van Bommel to move to AC Milan or Premier League?

More about:

Bayern Munich midfielder Mark van Bommel might move to a club in England or Italy this year. His current contract with the German giants ends this summer and big names in the Premier League and the Serie A are reportedly considering acquiring the services of the 33-year-old.

The clubs rumoured to have expressed an interest in the Holland captain include Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan. But Van Bommel’s agent would not be drawn.

“We’ve approached a number of European clubs and none of them dismissed our offer out of hand,” Mino Raiola told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. “This means they’re interested, but nothing concrete has come out of it yet. Most clubs need time to think it over. And that includes AC Milan.”

De Telegraaf writes that the Italian club may find Van Bommel’s salary demands too high and the proposed duration of the contract too long. But these terms are of course negotiable, writes the paper, as long as conditions are more attractive than Bayern’s offer of a one-year extension.

Bayern Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge would like the Dutchman to stay and doesn’t rule out presenting a new offer later this season, says Van Bommel’s agent.

The Dutch midfielder was at the centre of a row between his current club and the Dutch Football Association at the start of the season after he was ruled out for weeks with a knee injury which he aggravated while on international duty. Bayern reacted furiously, threatening legal action and reminding the player in no uncertain terms that he should know which way his bread is buttered.
