The United States has taken further measures in response to the attempted terrorist attack on a flight to Detroit on 25 December.
The White House has announced a major overhaul of its so-called no-fly lists. The lists contain the names of people prohibited from entering the United States for security reasons.
The US has already introduced tighter security measures for passengers from 14 countries. The move has attracted sharp criticism from countries affected, such as Cuba and Nigeria. The Cuban authorities described it as a "desperate directive" and a symptom of US “anti-terrorist paranoia".
The US security services are currently completing an internal investigation into the events on the flight to Detroit. President Barack Obama will be informed of the results on Tuesday.
