The United States House of Representatives has unanimously voted to honour the album Kind of Blue, which was released by jazz musician Miles Davis 50 years ago.
In their resolution, the politicians voted 409-0 to pass a symbolic resolution honouring the masterpiece and reaffirming jazz as a national treasure.
They praised the commercial success and artistic influence of the legendary recording and urged the government “to take all appropriate steps" to preserve and promote jazz.
Kind of Blue ranks 12th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time and by 2008 had sold at least 4,000,000 copies. This makes it the best-selling album in jazz history.
