The reform of healthcare in the United States has come one step closer.
President Barack Obama's plan to provide healthcare to 30 million uninsured US citizens looked as though it might not win the needed 60 votes in the US Senate until conservative Democrat Ben Nelson changed his mind. Mr Nelson, a committed anti-abortionist, said he made his decision after winning concessions that tightened access to government money for abortions.
President Obama now has the 60 votes he needs to steer the healthcare bill through the Senate. The US House of Representatives recently approved the bill.
