US brings terror plot charges

Published on 24 September 2009 - 9:35pm
More about:

In the United States, three men have been charged with conspiring to carry out bomb attacks on US territory.

The chief suspect is a 24-year-old Afghan-born airport worker in the state of Colorado, Najubullah Zazi. He has confessed to having attended an al-Qaeda training camp in Pakistan.

The FBI says the man's father Mohammed Wali Zazi, and an imam from New York, Ahmad Wais Afzali, were also involved in the plot. The authorities have not specified where or when the attack was to have been made.

The men had been under investigation for some time. A US Attorney said evidence against the men included emails, eyewitness accounts, and telephone taps.
