A 56-year-old Belgian has been arrested in the United States for arms dealing following a six-month sting operation. The US Ministry of Justice says the man wanted to smuggle engines and parts of fighter jets and military freight planes to Iran.
He is also believed to have attempted to get his hands on F5 fighter jet engines. The US sold F5s to Iran in the 1970s, before the Islamic revolution of 1979.
The Belgian is thought to have been involved in arms smuggling for decades, his activities were discovered when he got in touch with an undercover agent earlier this year.
