It looks like the recession in the United States is at an end. The US economy grew at a seasonally adjusted rate of 3.5 from July to September in relation to the previous quarter.
After four quarters of contraction, the latest figures herald the end of the longest period of recession in the US since 1947 when records began. The growth rate is slightly higher than that predicted by analysts.
The US economy was still contracting by a rate of 0.7 percent in the second quarter of this year. In the two previous quarters, it saw an average recession of 6 percent.
