A bus driver has been stabbed in the town of Breukelen, south of Amsterdam, on Friday. Police say that the 50-year-old stabber, who lives in the area, has been arrested.
According to eyewitness reports the man had been harrassing other passengers on the bus. When the driver intervened to restore order, he was stabbed by the troublemaker.
The injured driver was taken to the Amsterdam Medical Centre, where his condition is reported to be stable and not critical.
Colleagues of the injured driver were informed of the incident by staff of the bus operator, Connexxion. A spokesperson for the company said the drivers were in a resigned mood and did not consider any strike action. Earlier violent incidents elsewhere in the Netherlands prompted wild strikes by transport personnel demanding safer work conditions.
