A man aged 19 has been killed in a shooting incident in Amsterdam.
He died on Monday night in hospital from injuries sustained when he was shot on a playing field in the southeast of the Dutch capital. The area has been the scene of two earlier fatal incidents, in one of which a 15-year-old boy was killed.
Amsterdam police have intensified their patrols in the area and are frisking passers-by to prevent arms being carried. Police are assuming the incidents are unrelated; some are simply quarrels that got out of hand, others may be settlings of criminal scores, according to a police spokesperson.
The circumstances surrounding Monday's shooting are unclear. The person who fired the shots has disappeared without trace. Some children who were playing on the field at the time witnessed the incident.
