Dutch trade union federation FNV staged rallies across the country to protest against a government decision to raise the retirement age from 65 to 67.

Demonstrations were held in Rotterdam, Assen, Deventer and Eindhoven. The largest demonstration was in Rotterdam, where police estimated that 5,000 people took part. FNV leader Agnes Jongerius described Finance Minister Piet Hein Donner as the head of a gang of thieves and said that Labour Party leader Wouter Bos had shown his true colours by shedding his red coat.
