The Labour Party has called on Defence Minister Jack de Vries to investigate claims that Dutch soldiers have been misled into taking out unnecessary funeral insurance.
Dutch military union ACOM alleges that the insurance broker that told soldiers that the defence ministry would not pay repatriation and funeral costs of soldiers killed during a mission overseas. Soldier’s parents were wrongly informed that they would face thousands of euros of expense if they didn’t take out the insurance.
The broker in question works with ACOM’s competitor, the military trade union VBM/NOV.
