One peacekeeper of the joint United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has been killed and two others injured in an ambush in Geneina, the capital of the state of West Darfur.
On Monday evening a group of men opened fire on the peacekeepers, who were escorting a minibus carrying civilian members of a peace mission. The civilians were unharmed.
The soldier was the 17th UNAMID peacekeeper killed since the force began its operations in January 2008.
