In Haiti, the United Nations bade farwell to members of staff who died in the devastating quake over two weeks ago. At a memorial service held in Port-au-Prince, the new head of the UN mission in Haiti, the Guatamaltan Edmond Mulet, read out the names of 85 personnel known to have died.

Thirty UN staff members are still missing. According to the latest government figures, 170,000 people died in the disaster. More than one million Haitians lost their homes. The UN estimate that over 75 percent of the buildings in Port-au-Prince will have to be rebuilt.
