The United Nations says lack of funding is threatening its food aid operations in certain parts of West Africa. It says flights to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Chad by its World Food Programme are at risk.
Every month, 4000 UN aid workers fly to ten different locations in Chad, where they have provided aid to 250,000 refugees from the Sudanese region of Darfur. But lack of funds means such assistance may soon come to an end. The WFP has already suspended aid to Ivory Coast and Niger.
The lack of money has been caused by the global economic crisis. UN member states are now so busy trying to solve their own financial problems that they have little time, or funds, for subsidies.

Why don't the government just print money, buy food and send it to those poor people in Africa....
