Dutchman Yvo de Boer is leaving his job as climate chief at the United Nations.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) announced that Mr de Boer has a new job as of 1 July. He will be joining Swiss consultancy KPMG, where he will advise businesses on climate and sustainability issues.
Yvo de Boer has headed the UNFCCC since 2006. At the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen last December he failed to persuade governments to sign a binding agreement to prevent climate change.
"Sustainability is high on the agendas of investors, businesses and governments," said Mr de Boer after the announcement. He hopes to contribute to creating the right conditions to protect the enviroment while stimulating growth.
It is not known who will succeed him.
