The Ukrainian government of Yulia Tymochenko fell yesterday after a majority of the 450 parliamentarians passed a motion of no confidence in her cabinet.
The crisis arose yesterday when the party of former president Viktor Yushchenko withdrew from the government. The departing prime minister says she had no intention of staying on in a caretaker capacity. She has been embroiled in a bitter struggle with the new president, Viktor Yanukuvich, for years.
It will now be up to the president to form a government, while his party falls far short of a majority. If he fails, early elections will be inevitable.
