The UEFA is investigating allegations of 40 cases of match-fixing in the Champions League and the UEFA Cup.
The European football body is focusing on matches involving clubs from Eastern Europe. The body suspects the clubs expected defeat and were looking for other ways of making a profit. The fixing allowed people with foreknowledge to make huge amounts of money. In April a Macedonian club found guilty of match-fixing was suspended for eight seasons.
