Published on 9 October 2009 - 9:25am
More about:

In the northern Philippines, at least 180 people have died in landslides caused by Typhoon Parma.

A hundred and twenty people were killed in Benguet province alone. According to the authorities the country has never experienced such heavy rainfall before. In mountainous regions, more landslides are expected, while in low-lying areas entire cities are under water.

Typhoon Parma hit the Philippines almost a week ago, and since then it has been raining continuously. The typhoon has now weakened to a tropical depression. A week before Typhoon Parma hit, Tropical Storm Ketsana claimed 340 lives in the south of the country.
