The Chinese authorities have executed two people convicted for their role in last year's scandal in which six children died and over 300,000 children became ill after drinking contaminated milk. Those executed were the production manager and the director of a milk production plant.

Investigations revealed that the chemical melamine had been added to milk powder to falsely boost its protien levels. Melamine is used in the manufacture of plastics and can result in kidney failure.
