Turkey gives Kurd life for attack on tourists

Published on 30 December 2009 - 10:30am
More about:

A Turkish court has sentenced a Kurdish man to life in prison for a bomb attack in 2005 which left five people dead, including a British and an Irish tourist.

The bombing, which destroyed a mini-bus transporting holidaymakers to a beach, took place in the Aegean resort of Kusadasi. The other three victims were Turks. Thirteen people were injured in the attack.

The judge gave the suspect, Mehmet Sirac Keskin, six life sentences in total - five for the victims and one for 'separatist activities'. The Kurd denied involvement in the bomb attack but admitted to being a member of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party or PKK.
