Trafigura allows publication of report

Published on 17 October 2009 - 6:10pm
More about:

Dutch-based oil trading company Trafigura has given up its attempt to stop the publication of a critical report on the dumping of toxic waste in Ivory Coast in 2006.

The internal Trafigura report is three years old and has been widely leaked on the internet and via Twitter. The document confirms Greenpeace allegations that Trafigura boss Claude Dauphin knew that the Probo Koala ship dumped toxic waste in Ivory Coast.

It is alleged the dumped waste resulted in thousands of people becoming sick and in the deaths of at least 15 people. Trafigura refutes the accusations, saying the waste was not dangerous.
