Trabelsi loses appeal against extradition

The Belgian Supreme Court has ruled that the convicted terrorist Nizar Trabelsi can be extradited to the United States.

The court in Brussels was considering the appeal launched against the extradition order by the former footballer. The United States intends to try him for planning an attack on the US embassy in Paris. Before he can be extradited, however, Trabelsi will first have to complete his ten-year jail sentence in Belgium for planning an attack on the airbase at Kleine Brogel. Apparently, al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden personally ordered him to attack the Belgian airbase.

The 32-year old Tunisian was arrested in Brussels shortly after the 9/11 attacks for possession of a firearm and plans for making a bomb. After his football career ended, Trabelsi became interested in al-Qaeda and expressed a desire to die a martyr's death.
